Introductions from Chair 

Clive Jones, MP for Wokingham and Liberal Democrat Spokesperson (Trade) welcomed attendees to the Inaugural General Meeting (IGM).      

Clive was pleased to acknowledge, and welcome, the strong cross-party support for the APPG for the Thames Valley. He thanked all member MPs and Lords for their commitment and involvement in the APPG, including those MPs and Lords who have also offered their support but were unable to attend the IGM today.  

 

1. Name for APPG 

It was agreed that the name of the group would be the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Thames Valley (APPG for the Thames Valley) 

 

2. Election of Officers  

a. It was moved that Clive Jones MP would serve as Chair of the APPG.  

All voted in favour 

b. It was moved that the below Parliamentarians be elected as officers of the APPG.  

All voted in favour

3. Approval of Groups Statement 

Clive Jones, Chair of the APPG for the Thames Valley, invited the Secretariat (see below) to provide the following group statement (no more than 50 words): 

‘To advance the Thames Valley’s global reputation as a business location of choice and an engine of growth for the UK. The ambition is to shape local and national growth plans that can serve the thriving, green, healthier future we want for a truly competitive Thames Valley.’ 

This was unanimously accepted by the group. 

 

4. Secretarial Services 

It was agreed that the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce would support the work of the group, acting as the Secretariat for the APPG. 

This was unanimously accepted by the group.

5. Next Steps / To Note 

i. Submission of Registry entry for inclusion in the APPG Register (no less than 28 days from today – i.e. aim no later than Friday 15th August 2025) by Clive Jones, supported by the Secretariate. 

ii. Agree the next meeting of the APPG for the Thames Valley 

iii. To note: In accordance with the ‘Guide to the Rules’ (for APPGs) the: 

  • date of this, the group’s IGM and the first formal meeting, constitutes the first day of the APPG’s reporting year.   
  • start and end date of an APPG’s reporting year will be set out in the Register entry (i.e., 21st July 2025 – 20th July 2026) 
  • group must hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) within four months of the end of its reporting year.
